In “Swellen’s Reckoning” we learn his “origin story’ with the army, and how as a fugitive he became involved with a new invention, a mountaineer climbing, cog-and-rail-train company from Sicily, working in Pikes Peak, Colorado. He’s hired by the Sicilian owner Arturo Zapello to thwart sabotage, theft and murder within his company, and to further thwart one of his crew chiefs, Carlo Greco. Greco was also a renowned swordsman constantly challenging the locals to duels to their death. Many reckonings befall Swoop and all those around him in this, his first solo adventure.
